Kuakini Medical Plaza upgraded its lighting system and saw a payback in just over one year.
Kuakini Medical Plaza, located in Honolulu, Hawaii, one of the largest private acute care hospitals on the island. In 2007, Energy Industries provided the eight-story facility with a lighting retrofit for 1,400 fixtures.
The existing lighting system consisted of T12 lamps, magnetic ballasts, and incandescent bulbs. The new lighting system features low-wattage T8 lamps, electronic ballasts, and CFL’s. This project achieved an annual savings of 279,000 kwh and $53,800. Combining these savings with a HECO rebate of $21,441, the payback for Kuakini Medical Plaza was just 1.2 years.
